When you buy a new router whether it is wireless or an ordinary router, it requires to be set up in order to use it. A router’s configuration is not as complex as some people think it is. Although it might be a little tricky for new users, it is still very easy if you follow the simple steps from somewhere. That is why we have prepared a list that complete answer the question what steps are involved in configuring a router? So, let’s get started.

Setup for new internet connection:

To use internet on your device, you must set up an internet connection. It is a simple task. All you have to do is turn off your modem and unplug its cable from your device. Take that cable and connect it to the router. After connecting the cable, turn on the modem and wait for a couple of minutes, then turn on the router. Once it is ON, take an Ethernet cable and connect it with the device you are going to use internet. Now you can simply turn on the device and proceed to the next step.

IP Address:

This is a simple step. You have to open a web browser and enter you IP address there. It will lead you to your router’s interface. From there, you can easily configure your router. You can set new and adjust existing settings. Most of the modern routers come with their respective mobile apps that allow you to easily configure settings with your mobile phone.

Advanced Configuration:

You might not find some configurations in your interface’s front page. That is because some settings are in the advanced section that requires admin permission to access. Enter your username and password to log into that page. Once you are on that page, you will find every type of advanced settings that you can change according to your need. From there, you can also change your Wi-Fi name and password.

Some important settings:

While you may configure some settings as your requirements, there are some settings that will help you get a better experience especially if you are new to it. Change the default mode 802.11 for standard settings. If you have a dual-band router, you would see two frequencies. Set them as per your router’s specifications if they are not default set.

Now, you can simply log out of the router’s interface or you can stay and learn some more if you wish. These are the main steps that you need to configure your router. It is recommended to first understand all your router’s specifications before changing any of its settings. That is because if you change a setting other than its suitable value, your router might not give you the best performance.
