These robots are smart! And when we say smart, it means really smart. It’s a total hands-free experience. You don’t even have to move an inch to start, stop or to make it do something. Now what are all the amazing things these robots do? Let us put some forth. They can sweep, mop, sweep and mop simultaneously, increase or decrease suction power, detect different kinds of surfaces such as carpets or tiles, can automatically go back to recharge on charging dock, can efficiently map your house via its camera and can navigate the most effective route around your house!
All that from a small compact body and an app. Now let’s break it down a little for you. The hardware of these devices consists of one or two spinning brushes and a rolling brush.
These work in conjunction to bring large and small debris inwards to center where the vacuum mechanism sucks it up into the dust bin. Expensive models even detect the humidity and dryness levels of the floor and switch between mopping and vacuuming. They are designed to suck in small things off of surfaces and they do so at different suction levels too. Carpets are thick and dense, hence a higher suction, typically 2000Pa is used. Hardwood and tiled areas need lesser suction powers.
Integration of these hardware and software enable robot vacuums to do all kinds of cleaning jobs. At one time, sensor navigation was the only way all robot vacuums worked. Today it’s a lot more. So many new features.
Newer high-end robot vacuums include self-navigation systems that use mapping technology. Camera and LIDAR laser mapping are two ways of it.
Both screen their surroundings and map the house into their memory to create a path around furniture and walls and other no-go zones, if specified. This then ensures a collision free efficient cleaning route in the house. Some opt for a straight-line symmetrical path where others move in a zig-zag.
