A Perfect Short Buying Guide for a Router!

A good router helps you to use the most out of your internet. If it is capable of supporting a good internet speed, a router can get you the maximum speed from an Internet connection. And, it is needless to say that a good internet speed can help you get your tasks done easily and quickly. However, that’s not it. This is A Perfect Short Buying Guide for a Router!

A router has much more features than just to provide you a high internet speed. If you are a beginner, you might not know much about the equipment like routers but there is much more to a router that you would want to know.

If you are looking to buy a router, there are some factors that you need to consider. These factors will not only help you in using the internet without interruptions but also provide you a variety of features that will be useful for you. So, let’s get started.

Multi-core processor:

If you want more data handling at the same time without buffering then consider buying a multi-core processor. Most of the old routers were single-core that was helpful but only to a certain extent.

They did not have power for more data processing and were slow in speed. Consider buying a multi-core processor with a potential of at least 1.2 GHz, it will help you data transfer with multiple sources at the same time with reduced buffering.

The same rule applies for the RAM of the router. The ideal RAM for router is 256 MB or more. Although 128 MB of RAM will work, it will not be as fast and will provide slower data-handling when dealing with multiple clients. But never buy a router less than 128 MB RAM. The newer routers provide even up to 1GB RAM.

USB Port:

A router with USB ports is much better because it allows you to share your storage devices or printers with the connected network. It also allows you to create a cloud storage that can be used to share data between the networks. Consider buying a route which has at least 1 USB port, preferably 3.0.

Security:

One of the most important factors related to internet is security. When surfing internet, your connection must be secure. A router should support Wireless WPA2 security that allows you to set password to your network.

Additional security features of a router include DOS, Firewall, etc. A router must also have an anti-virus and anti-malware system that keeps your connection protected from all the harmful viruses.

Management:

The router you want to buy should be easy to install and easier to manage. Most routers come with mobile applications that allow easy management of all the devices in a network from anywhere.

Dual-Band or more:

Most of the newer routes are Dual-bands which mean they support wireless signals on two frequencies. There are also Tri-band routers that are even more efficient and more powerful in terms of performance.
