However, if you are installing GPU for the very first time on your computer, you can just skip this part. AMD and NVIDIA offer complete guides of removing previously installed GOU software on your computers.

Another handy tool that you can use to completely remove GPU drivers on Windows is known as Display Driver Uninstaller. You do not necessarily need to use this utility however if you do, it will be highly beneficial for you.

Once you have removed all the drivers, it is time to open your PC up and follow the below mentioned steps to efficiently install the graphics card on your computer.

Installing The New Graphics Card

  • Shut down the PC first.
  • You can turn off the switch on the back of the PC to turn off the supply to the PSU.
  • The side panel is usually held on by two screws, you need to unscrew it and extract it carefully. However, if you do not have a previously installed GPU on your computer, you can just skip to Step 7.
  • Now, you will find your previous GPU installed on it. Remove it by unscrewing the screws holding the GPU in the rear bracket.
  • You can now unlock the PCI-e slot clip.
  • Remove the GPU card gently by pulling.
  • Hover the new GPU over the PCI-e slot.
  • Push the GPU down to slide the connector into the slot.
  • You need to ensure that it clicks into the place.
  • Screw the rear bracket to keep the GPU in its place.
  • Now you can connect any PSU cables if required.
  • Reattach the side panel of the CPU and you are good to go.

Now, all you have to do is plug-in the rear display connectors whether they’re HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, or DVI. Once you are done, hit the power button on and start the PC.

In case the PC doesn’t turn on or the monitor doesn’t receive signals, you will need to check again if all the display cables have been connected correctly. Once the monitor catches signals, you will have to install the GPU drivers on your computer and voila.
